Luz is Syndicated!

The editors at Briarpatch Magazine have been so graceful as to request Luz: Girl of the Knowing appear in its pages each issue! I'm thrilled and honoured, as this magazine is a trailblazing independent alternative news magazine committed to building a socialist democratic society and support peace, equality, democracy, social justice, Aboriginal self-determination, and the protection of the environment in every issue.

Congratulations ! By the way, I mentioned you in an article about Canadian comics that I wrote for the Belgian magazine "Stripgids", which is due out in february-march. I'll keep you posted.

Claudia,...congrats on your successes and just wanted to also say that I'm sorry for being so controversial in some of your LUZ strip feedbacks. I want to go on record as saying I think what you are doing is excellent and you are obviously very genuine in your thoughts and messages. A refreshing change in this crazy world. Can I ask what tools you use to draw Luz? Do you use a Wacom tablet, old fashioned pen and ink, brush or perhaps a tablet PC? I would love to know the process you go through from sketch to ink. Also I would love to know your thoughts on the "one laptop per child" deal going on now.

Thanks, Sparehed! I love your writeup in the Ephemerist in my early days, it was MUCH appreciated -- I wonder if I'll be able to find your article in Stripgids online, I'd love to read it :-)

Todd, no worries about your rantings, I'm glad my strip stirs up a fuss! As for my methods, I draw on paper first in blue pencil, then in ink using a Pitt brush pen and Staedtler tech pens. After scanning the black and white art, I colour in Photoshop, but lay it out with text in InDesign. And yup, my mouse is actually a Wacom tablet, for drawing and general computer navigation. Maybe one day, when electricity is scarce, I'll do everything by hand -- not sure how I'd make reproductions though!
